Podcasting and “What Is Your Dream?” with Kupid: GCSE Drama Students Find Their Voice
Exploring creativity, confidence, and ambition through the power of podcasting.
GCSE Drama students recently took part in an inspiring and engaging podcasting workshop led by acclaimed R&B and rap artist Kupid. With professional experience spanning performance, event organisation, and creative arts education, Kupid brought energy, expertise, and passion to an unforgettable learning experience.
The workshop introduced students to the core principle that underpins all great podcasting: conversation. Through a series of carefully structured activities, students explored how meaningful dialogue can inform, entertain, and inspire an audience. Kupid’s calm and encouraging approach created a positive and respectful environment, enabling all students to contribute confidently and listen actively to one another.
Students began by discussing their interests and sharing ideas, before moving on to develop engaging podcast questions. Topics ranged from imaginative and humorous debates—such as whether aliens exist or how one might survive a zombie apocalypse—to more reflective and thought-provoking discussions.
A key focus of the workshop was confidence-building. In one activity, students were challenged to speak individually for thirty seconds about themselves, reinforcing the powerful message that every voice is valuable and every story matters. This exercise supported the development of key GCSE Drama skills, including communication, self-expression, and confidence.
The central theme of the workshop, ‘What is your dream?’, encouraged students to reflect on their ambitions and aspirations. Working collaboratively in groups, they explored a range of personal goals, including becoming professional performers, making a positive impact on others’ lives, and supporting mental health within their communities.
Students then applied their learning by planning and recording their own podcast episodes. Using simple recording techniques, each group created a conversation-based podcast that demonstrated creativity, teamwork, and thoughtful discussion. Several students volunteered to present their work live, showcasing both confidence and originality.
The workshop concluded with an ‘elevator pitch’ challenge, inspired by entrepreneur and podcaster Simon Squibb. Students practiced presenting their podcast ideas clearly and persuasively, as if speaking to an influential figure in a short space of time.
This enriching experience not only enhanced students’ understanding of podcasting as a modern communication tool but also reinforced the transferable skills central to GCSE Drama, including collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking. Podcasting is increasingly recognised as a powerful educational tool that develops communication, storytelling, and teamwork skills while engaging students in active learning.
Kupid’s visit left a lasting impression on our students, empowering them to find their voice, express their ideas, and consider how their dreams can shape their future.
