Big Ambitions & Big Matches: Our Year 10s Conquer Their 3-Day University Residential!
We are absolutely delighted to share that some of our Year 10 students have returned from a fantastic 3 day summer residential trip at the University of Wolverhampton! The entire experience was packed with energy, enthusiasm, and unforgettable moments as our students got a genuine taste of campus independence and higher education.
Day 1: Icebreakers, Team Quizzes, and Settling In
The adventure began with the excitement of arriving on campus and settling into their rooms. To help everyone shake off any nerves, the group jumped straight into a series of fun icebreaker activities. These sessions were a massive hit, helping students mix across different peer groups, build confidence, and spark new friendships right from the start. The day continued with sport science lectures and public service sessions. The evening concluded with a lively, competitive team quiz followed by some well-earned free time. It was wonderful to see so many smiling faces as the children relaxed, chatted, and unwound before heading to their rooms for a restful first night.
Day 2: University Lectures and World Cup Fever!
On our second day, students took on the role of true undergraduates. The group spent the day participating in a range of exciting academic activities, including attending real university lectures! The campus was buzzing with our students’ energy as they explored the facilities, asked fantastic questions, and opened their minds to big future ambitions.
The excitement didn’t end when the lectures finished. In the evening, the entire group came together to watch England win 2-1 against Congo DR!!! While tucking into a mountain of delicious food (including freshly made Donut’s ) and enjoying a disco arranged by the university, the children created a truly brilliant atmosphere, cheering on England together and making memories that will last a lifetime.
Day 3: Campus Exploration and Reflections
Our final day focused on exploring the wider campus and reflecting on everything learned over the few days, we also had an amazing talk from Dynamic Award-Winning Inspirational Speaker Stephen Seki. Our students proved themselves to be independent, mature, and incredibly supportive of one another. Whether managing their own schedules or engaging with university staff, they were an absolute credit to our school.
A huge thank you goes out to the team at the University of Wolverhampton for hosting us. Most importantly, congratulations to Year 10 for their exemplary behaviour and team spirit with hopefully inspiring some of them to attend University when they older.
