6. Work Experience
We are proud of our commitment to work experience at Coppice and consider it a vital and worthwhile activity for all students.
During the summer term Year 10 students embark on one week’s Work Experience placement with companies based all over the West Midlands and sometimes further afield . Students are encouraged to be active in finding a placement themselves with help from parents and Academic Tutors. However, our Work Experience Administrator, is also available to assist those students who may need some additional support in securing a placement.
All placements are processed through the Wolverhampton Education Business Partnership (EDP) who carry out Health & Safety and Insurance checks to ensure that all placements are suitable for our students.
Students are prepared in advance for their placement through assemblies where health & safety, behaviour, and expectations are discussed. During this time students are also provided with a WEX – Log Book in order to keep a diary of the activities that they undertake which can then be used in their Record of Achievement.
Students will generally receive a visit from a member of staff to ensure that they are finding the placement worthwhile and that the employers are equally happy. Where this is not possible a phone call is always made.
Each year students benefit greatly from their experiences and the feedback we receive from both students and employees is excellent. Coppice continues to build good relationships with local businesses and if you are a business and would like to support our students by offering a placement with your company then please contact WEX administrator on 01902 558500 or email wex@coppice.wolverhampton.sch.uk.
